a memento mori

He was loved and his name was Sammy.

He did not have 12 lives lived, just only this one.

A bad heart was his fate.

He was 14 when his life was taken.

This memento mori is a small love token,

A physical reminder of the love he gave.

Spirally Cosmic Blast !

A new cat hair necklace.

What is this? A spontaneous combustion of neurological activity. Yes! The brain was on a roll in this creation, throughly in the present moment, no saved mental image to refer to.

After a couple of months cooped up at home, I finally am at the studio. In front of me is beautifully colored plated wire—rose, sea green and aqua—as well as a handful of cat hair orbs, begging to be part of something. And so it just happened, my hands, my mind, my joy, began the process of birthing this piece over two sittings.

The final result: An outrageous spirally cosmic blast!

In this image Gaia looks more impressive than anyone I’ve ever met in real life, he looks like he should be in charge of something important, like immigration or the military.

Hair we are again—Tubular Too!

An elegant necklace made from tubes and orbs of cat hair.

This past May, while I was laided up, recovering from a foot operation, a second design, based on Mr Tubular, a necklace I created previously, began percolating. It rolled around in my mind for days, actually weeks, before beginning the process of rolling then forming the hair into tubes. That was the easy part. Wire wrapping those elongated shapes, with brass, was a pain and I almost gave up! But I persevered instead.

Gaia is such a gracious model. Not only did he pose for me with the necklace around his neck, holding still for many shots until I got the right one, but allowed me use of his wide back for an overall view of this piece.

And the final necklace: just cat hair and brass wire.

Spirally Cosmic Cat Hair Haze

Another cat hair necklace.

This cat hair creation gradually emerged from the depths of my nighttime wanderings — that foggy, etheral place where my designs grow and evolve.

It began as this seed image: white orbs floating above wispy thin wires.

Over weeks it stewed then matured, until I was ready to draw it forth. And forth it came, into the hard reality of phyicality, abet modifications.

Welcome my delicate and asymmetrical cosmic spirals!

Materials: stainless steel, silver wire and cat hair, of course!
